Participate in the Neely YDNA Testing!

YDNA projects have become popular in recent years as a new tool in surname genealogy. This is called genetic genealogy and allows a statistical estimation of the number of generations to the most recent common ancestor between people.

The impact of this is that it tells how closely related people and common groups of people are. In the case of William Neely, there are at least seven Neely project participants who shared a common ancestor with William’s descendant in the not too distant past (probably the 1700’s).

We now know the 37 marker YDNA for William Neely, who was killed in 1780 by Indians when Mary was captured. Jim Neely, a friend and distant Neely relative who is a long time Neely researcher, was recently able to locate a direct male descendant of William and gain his participation in the Neely YDNA project at www.familytreedna.com.

YDNA is only passed from father to son. Therefore, the best candidates for participation are Neely males who can trace their ancestry back at least a few generations. Neely women who would like to participate can do so by having a father, brother, paternal uncle or his sons (cousins) provide a sample, which is obtained by scraping the inside of your cheek.

IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW YOUR NAME IS SPELLED: Neely, Neeley, Neelley, and Neelly surnames have been found to have a common link.
